Reducing Frown and Worry Lines

There is no other wrinkle treatment like Botox. A tiny Botox injection relaxes away deep, persistent lines and wrinkles that develop from the automatic contraction of muscles when you are worried, angry, sad or simply stressed. Lines and wrinkles formed by these muscle contractions are referred to as “dynamic”.
Over time these repeated muscle contractions form more permanent lines and wrinkles that require even further treatment – either with dermal fillers like Juvederm or Cosmoderm or resurfacing lasers such as Fraxel. Botox is not just a “fix” for those dynamic wrinkles, but also prevents the deep furrows that come with repeated muscle activity.
How does Botox® Cosmetic remove wrinkles?
Dr. Cobos uses only Botox® Cosmetic by Allergan. This natural purified protein is administered at very low doses to reduce the contractions of wrinkle-causing muscles. Most typically these are the frontalis muscles on your forehead and the corrugator muscles between your eyebrows (the ones that form an “11” when you frown). These muscles get in the habit of staying contracted and are the ones that can cause you to look perpetually worried or angry.
Between the Lines
In this three-part video series, ‘Between the Lines’, Shape’s executive beauty director, Cheryl Kramer Kaye, shares her personal and professional journey with BOTOX® Cosmetic over the past twelve years. See Cheryl undergo treatment on-camera.
If your friends or kids or co-workers are asking you what you’re mad about, and you aren’t mad about anything, then it’s time to think about some Botox.
Botox is also a great wrinkle-minimizer for crow’s feet and fine wrinkles (bunny lines) on the side of your nose. If you have them, you know it. Another common use is for relaxing the platysma muscles in your neck to soften the vertical bands that start showing up as you get a little older.
While the result is dramatic, it does not radically change your facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so you can still frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.
The Botox Brow Lift

Botox has the wonderful capacity to provide a non surgical brow lift. Yes, it’s temporary, but once you’ve experienced it, you’ll love it. For some, a lowered brow is pure genetics. For others, it’s simply part of aging and experiencing the worries of life. No matter what the reason, if you can consciously raise your brow, you can get lift effect from Botox.
Avoiding the “Frozen Face” Look Dr. Cobos is careful to give you a natural looking result and uses a conservative dose to start. The result is that you look like you just returned from a fabulous vacation, and not your dermatologist’s office.. Precision placement and “just enough” dosage is important to minimize your frown without taking your natural expression away.
What is a Botox® Cosmetic treatment like?
Botox® procedures are quick, simple, with no anesthesia required because any pain is very minimal. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine needle directly into the area being treated. Discomfort is minimal and brief, and once complete, there is usually no pain, though there may be some minor bruising if you have recently used pain relievers other than Tylenol or Vitamin E. If you’re like most patients, you’ll return directly to work or normal activity immediately afterwards.
What areas can be treated with Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® treatments can be performed in a number of locations, including between your brows, crows’ feet and eye area, smile lines, and neck. Effects of Botox® appear within a few days and generally last from four to six months.
What about using Botox Cosmetic and Wrinkle Fillers together?
In addition, carefully selected use of small amounts of Botox in the lower face slow aging in this area. Not everyone is a candidate for lower-face Botox, but Dr. Cobos will discuss this with you if you are interested.
